The bibliography features elaborations of the doctrine of sin by Augustine, Calvin, and Barth, followed by the treatments of two more recent Reformed theologians, John Leith and Cornelius Plantinga. The supplementary readings discuss sin in light of its anthropological and cultural significance (Emil Brunner and Reinhold Niebuhr) and in the literary imaginations of two authors shaped by the Reformed tradition (Herman Melville and John Milton).
